Wildcats host Kent State to open 2014 baseball season

Senior James Farris will start on the mound as Arizona opens its 2014 baseball season on Friday night against Kent State. Game time is 6 pm. at Hi Corbett Field.

The two teams will continue the three-game series with games at 6 p.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday. Tyler Crawford will start on Saturday for Arizona, with junior college transfer Cody Hamlin getting the Sunday start.

The Wildcats are coming off a 34-21 season, while Kent State was 36-23. Andy Lopez, who has recovered from offseason heart surgery, starts his 13th season as Arizona's head coach, while Arizona State alumnus Jeff Duncan is in his first season as Kent State's head coach.

Arizona returns six regulars from last year's lineup, led by shortstop Kevin Newman, who earned All-Pac-12 honors as a freshman while batting .336. Other returnees include catcher Riley Moore, second baseman Trent Gilbert and outfielders Joseph Maggi, Zach Gibbons and Scott Kingery.
