ST. PAUL, Minn. — The NHL announced that Minnesota Wild forward Warren Peters was suspended one game for a cross-checking to the head of David Backes of the St. Louis Blues during Saturday's game.

Peters served the suspension on Sunday when Minnesota hosted the defending Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins. The Wild won, 2-0. Peters, who has one goal and four assists in 36 games this season, will forfeit $2,905.41 of his $550,000 salary.

Peters cross-checked Backes in the shoulder, but his stick glanced up and hit Backes in the side of the head. Backes left the game and didn't return.

Without Peters and with Mikko Koivu out with an undisclosed injury, the Wild called up Chad Rau from Houston on Sunday and put the Eden Prairie native into the lineup. Defenseman Mike Lundin was placed on injured reserve.
