WIAA D-1: Big second half leads Kimberly over Franklin for fourth straight title

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 2:46 p.m. ET

Trailing 14-0 at the half, Kimberly dominated the second half to beat Franklin 29-14 and win the WIAA Division 1 championship.

The Papermakers, who have know won 56 straight games, are the second team to win four consecutive WIAA titles.

In last year's championship game Kimberly trailed by 21 points in the second half, so a 14-point deficit was no reason to panic.

Danny Vanden Boom threw two touchdown passes in the third quarter as Kimberly tied the game and DJ Stewart had TD runs of 43 and 24 yards in the fourth quarter as the Papermakers grabbed control of the game. Stewart finished with 108 yards rushing on 19 carries.

Franklin quarterback Max Alba passed for 178 yards and ran for 54 more, but the Sabers turned the ball over four times.
