The Village of Whitefish Bay is set to bestow an honor on one of its hometown heroes.

The Brewers announced Friday that Whitefish Bay will dedicate one of its parks in honor of native son and former MLB veteran Craig Counsell.

"Water Tower Park" in Whitefish Bay will soon be known as "Craig Counsell Park" and is home to numerous little league teams.

The ceremony will take place on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Counsell and the Racing Sausages in attendance.

Counsell is a 1988 graduate of Whitefish Bay High School and went on to play 16 seasons in the MLB, including six with Milwaukee.

Retiring following the 2011 season, Counsell now serves as a Special Assistant to the General Manager for the Brewers.
