Whalen, Moore named to All-WNBA First Team; Augustus Second Team

MINNEAPOLIS -- On the eve of their next postseason test, the honors continued to roll in for the Minnesota Lynx.
Guard Lindsay Whalen and forward Maya Moore were named Wednesday to the all-WNBA first team, and teammate Seimone Augustus snagged second-team honors. It's the third top-accolades recognition for Whalen, while Moore was named one of the league's five best players for the first time in her three-year career.
"When you make the first or second team, you're in really good company," coach Cheryl Reeve said after practice Wednesday. "For us to have three players represented on that team is something I was really pleased to see. I think it represents what those players did this season, all season long."
Whalen earned her first individual recognition since the All-Star Game after scoring a career-high 14.9 points per game and leading Minnesota in assists (5.8 per game) this year. She also was named to the first team in 2008 and 2011, when the Lynx won their first WNBA title.
Moore joins Whalen after finishing second behind Los Angeles' Candace Parker in MVP voting. Moore, the league's rookie of the year in 2011 and a second-team selection last season, led the Lynx with 18.5 points and 1.74 steals per game while shooting a career-best 45.3 percent from 3-point range.
In Sunday's series-clinching playoff victory against Seattle, Moore led all scorers with 22 points.
Augustus was named to an all-WNBA squad for the fifth time in her eight-year career. She was placed on the first team last year and the second team in 2006, 2007 and 2011.
All three players and forward Rebekkah Brunson -- named to the league's all-defensive second team -- played in this season's All-Star Game.
The Lynx host the Phoenix Mercury in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Target Center.
