The majority of highly recruited West Coast prospects end up staying somewhere close to home, something that is good news for programs such as Arizona, San Diego State, Stanford and UCLA, which have all reached the 2014 Sweet 16 relying heavily on local talent.
However, some programs from further east have also found success with West Coast talent.
Virginia relies on a couple West Coast prospects, starting with senior Joe Harris, who averages 11.8 points and shoots 40.5% from three for the Cavaliers. Harris essentially followed Tony Bennett from Chelan (Wash.) to Virginia after Bennett departed Washington State for UVA. Washington State, BYU, Washington, SMU, San Diego and Portland had also offered Harris out of high school.
London Perrantes, originally a 2013 recruit from Encino (Calif.) Crespi, has had a big freshman season for Virginia, earning a starting role and averaging 5.4 points and 3.8 assists per game. Perrantes chose Virginia over offers from Arizona State, Illinois and Washington State and has proved himself as a steal for Tony Bennett.
UConn also relies on a West Coast product in junior forward Deandre Daniels, once a 2011 prospect from Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft. Daniels averages 12.6 points and 5.7 rebounds, but it's his 44.7% three-point percentage that makes him especially valuable for the Huskies. Before choosing UConn, Daniels was originally committed to Texas.
