Watt restructures contract, frees up $8 million in cap space for Texans

J.J. Watt is the highest paid player on the Houston Texans after signing a six-year $100 million contract prior to the 2014 season, but that doesn't mean the defensive star can't give his team some salary cap relief.

Watt and the Texans have restructured his contract to turn what would have been a $10 million roster bonus into a signing bonus, creating $8 million in salary cap space for Houston in the 2015 season. The news was first reported by ESPN.

The contract restructure can be considered a win-win situation for both parties with Watt still getting paid, but the Texans now having more flexibility to improve the roster for the 2015 season.
