Pat Shurmur said he wasn’t a big fan of Twitter during training camp and it doesn’t appear he will be any more excited with social media anytime soon.
The Browns and NFL teams don’t have to turn in their roster moves to the league until Friday night at 9 p.m. The Browns didn’t plan to announce their moves until much later than that, but thanks to Twitter and players’ agents, at least half of the player’s names of those released have come out.
For the Browns, the biggest names were those of quarterback Seneca Wallace and tight end Evan Moore. Wallace was in a battle to be the backup to rookie Brandon Weeden, but after a good performance in the preseason finale against the Bears was given his release according to FOX Sports Ohio’s Pat McManamon. Wallace through a touchdown pass to Rod Windsor on his final pass against the Bears. Ironically, Windsor was also released. Wallace was due to make nearly $2.4 million this season.
Moore, who started last season seems to have been replaced by Jordan Cameron in the rotation. He started training camp on the non-football injury list and has been running with the fourth team through most of camp. Another tight end, Dan Gronkowski was reported released by Pro Football Talk.
Others posting through their Twitter accounts or other players accounts were: DB James Dockery, DL Ronnie Cameron, DL William Green, OL Jarrod Shaw, DB David Sims and WR Josh Cooper. LB Ben Jacobs was reported as having been released by 92.3 FM The Fan.In the case of Shaw, Cameron and Cooper, they would be candidates to join the Browns eight man practice squad.
