Vikings waive 13 players in week’s first cuts

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Six-year veteran defensive end Lawrence Jackson was among 13 players waived by the Minnesota Vikings on Monday as the team started its first cuts in a week full of them in the NFL. The deadline to get to 75 players on the roster is Tuesday at 3 p.m. Central time. The final cut deadline to reach the 53-man active roster on Aug. 31. Minnesota started its decision-making early on Monday. The Vikings waived Jackson, who's played five years in the NFL and was a first-round draft pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2008. Jackson, who has 19.5 career sacks, was signed as a free agent on the first day of April's draft after playing the last three years with the Detroit Lions. The team also waived receiver LaMark Brown, receiver Erik Highsmith, guard Tyler Holmes, defensive end Marquis Jackson, linebacker Stanford Keglar, cornerback Greg McCoy, running back Bradley Randle, receiver Chris Summers, quarterback James Vandenberg, center Camden Wentz, running back Jerodis Williams and cornerback Roderick Williams. Of the group, only Keglar has regular-season NFL experience. Minnesota is at 76 players after Monday's cuts.
