EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- The Minnesota Vikings finalized contracts with 15 undrafted free agents on Tuesday and released four players.
Kain Colter, the Northwestern quarterback known for his attempt at unionizing college athletes at Northwestern, headlines the group for Minnesota. Colter will be tried by the Vikings at wide receiver.
Tennessee's Antonio "Tiny" Richardson was perhaps the most surprising of Minnesota's additions to not be drafted. Richardson is a 6-foot-6, 330-pound offensive tackle.
The Vikings released linebackers Simoni Lawrence and Terrell Manning, along with running back Bradley Randle and guard Josh Samuda. Lawrence, a former University of Minnesota player, was signed out of the Canadian Football League. Samuda sustained a bad ankle injury that required surgery during the team's minicamp last month.
Minnesota concentrated many of its rookie free agent signings along the lines.
On the offensive line, the Vikings signed Iowa guard Conor Boffeli, Mississippi tackle Pierce Burton, Belhaven tackle Matt Hall and Toledo center Zac Kerin, along with Richardson. On defense, Minnesota added Villanova end Rakim Cox, Florida International tackle Isame Faciane, Northwestern end Tyler Scott and Virginia end Jake Snyder.
The Vikings also signed Ohio receiver Donte Foster, Tennessee State tight end AC Leonard, Eastern Illinois receiver Erik Lora, Missouri Western quarterback Travis Partridge and Wagner running back Dominique Williams.
"There are guys on the bottom end of our roster, we feel some of these college free agents are going to have a chance to come in and compete and then there may be a couple roster moves to make sure we get to 90 players," Minnesota general manager Rick Spielman said on Saturday.
