EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman addressed the media after the final round of the NFL draft on Saturday and talked about adding 10 draft picks to Minnesota's roster.
But Spielman also had his eye on the crop of undrafted free agents, worrying about losing the prospects to other NFL teams. Spielman said his phone buzzed as he entered the Vikings' field house to talk to reporters. Spielman was trying to get one prospect in particular from jumping to another team.
The depth of this year's NFL draft was seen throughout the weekend and the result was talented players going undrafted, causing NFL teams to be aggressive adding undrafted free agents after the draft.
"There are guys on the bottom end of our roster, we feel some of these college free agents are going to have a chance to come in and compete and then there may be a couple roster moves to make sure we get to 90 players," Spielman said.
Minnesota agreed to terms with 15 undrafted rookies, with a particular focus on the offensive line.
Northwestern quarterback Kain Colter, who is known for his attempt at unionizing college athletes at Northwestern, was one of the Vikings' additions. Only Colter will be tried at receiver by the Vikings.
Tennessee offensive tackle Antonio "Tiny" Richardson and Tennessee State tight end AC Leonard also had the good chance to be drafted on Saturday, but agreed to terms with Minnesota after the draft.
The Vikings added Toledo center Zac Kerin, Mississippi tackle Pierce Burton, Bellhaven tackle Matt Hall, Fresno State guard Austin Wentworth and Iowa guard Conor Boffeli along the offensive line.
Minnesota also agreed to terms with Florida International nose tackle Isame Faciane, Wagner running back Dominique Williams, Virginia defensive end Jake Snyder, Eastern Illinois receiver Erik Lora, Northwestern defensive end Tyler Scott , Ohio receiver Donte Foster and Villanova defensive end Rakim Cox.
There were reports Ohio State quarterback Kenny Guiton had also agreed to terms. But Guiton's agent shot down those rumors later in the day, according to a tweet from David Wilkinson, a sports anchor for Channel 10 TV in Columbus, Ohio.
Reports on Sunday said Guiton was still trying to decide with offers from several NFL teams.
The Vikings will hold their annual rookie minicamp with their draft picks, undrafted rookies and other invitees at Winter Park next weekend.
