Jockey John Velazquez, sidelined with a broken collarbone since a June 16 spill at Churchill Downs, returned to competition Wednesday at Saratoga Race Course.
Fans gave Velazquez a warm reception before he rode favored Lucky Friends to finish fourth of seven in the fifth race.
Velazquez said he was a little anxious to be out there but he felt good about the fans' reaction and felt very good physically after the race.
Velazquez later rode favored Stephanie's Kitten, his only other mount on the 10-race card, to finish fourth of eight in the Lake George Stakes.
