USC WR Marqise Lee day-to-day with bone bruise

LOS ANGELES -- A collective sigh of relief could be heard around the USC campus Saturday night.

USC coach Lane Kiffin revealed Saturday that the injury suffered by All-American wide receiver Marqise Lee is not serious.

Lee suffered a bone bruise near his shoulder while making a catch during Friday's practice. He's day-to-day, Kiffin announced.

"(He) should be back very soon," Kiffin said following USC's Saturday night practice -- its second of the day.

Lee attended USC practice on Saturday night in full uniform minus the shoulder pads, but was not made available to the media.

The star wide receiver went deep over the middle and hauled in a pass from quarterback Cody Kessler on Friday while being guarded by cornerback Kevon Seymour.

Lee came down awkwardly and had to be escorted away from the practice field by members of the USC training staff. His right arm was in a sling.

Seymour, who has emerged as arguably the top corner in camp, was just trying to make a play on the ball. The two have since talked, with Lee assuring USC's young corner he would be OK.

"I talked to him," Seymour said. "Everything is good.

"We're all brothers. I love Qise. Qise loves me. It's just a brother-brother relationship. So we're all good. Everything is good. He's OK. I'm fine. We just out here to get better and win games ... he came to me (and said he's OK). No hard feelings."

Kiffin is relieved the severity of the injury is not worse and even shed some light on his range of emotions about the situation.

"Have you ever lost your wallet?" Kiffin asked a reporter. "Well, if you lose your wallet, you're really upset. But then you find your wallet, but you're really right back to where you started, but you feel good about it. So, we were excited last night (after we found out) but we're really right back to where we started."

With Lee sidelined, the Trojans were down to just three healthy scholarship wide receivers. When he does return to the practice field, his workload won't be lessened in light of his recent injury. Kiffin has things he needs to see from his All-American.

"Marqise's game is a little bit off right now," Kiffin said. "If you go back to spring, he missed (some of) spring. We've moved him in some different positions. He's now missed time in this camp. He's still gotta get a lot of work.

"We got to make sure that we're not relying on his athletic ability to take over and that we're still putting him in a lot of situations so that he can continue to improve as a receiver."

The Trojans entered camp with the No. 1 and 2 wide receiver spots solidified in Lee and Nelson Agholor, respectively.

Since Lee went down with the injury on Friday, Kiffin announced freshman Darreus Rogers as the team's No. 3 wideout.
