LOS ANGELES - The first BCS standings of the season were released Sunday with USC checking in at No. 10.
USC didn't have any movement in the AP Poll, remaining at No. 11 for the second consecutive week. In the Coaches' Poll the Trojans are ranked No. 9 for the second consecutive week as well.
To be included in the BCS Standings is something USC hasn't been able to be a part of during the last two seasons because of NCAA imposed sanctions.
For that reason alone, there is a sense of accomplishment for the Trojans to see themselves at No. 10 according to head coach Lane Kiffin.
"Obviously you want to be in those (BCS) conversations or somewhere on the board after two years of not being there," said Kiffin during his weekly Sunday night teleconference. "I think a lot of people, two years ago when our sanctions and probations were handed down, wouldn't think we'd be in these discussions for a long time so, it's good to be in there.
"We need to keep winning."
However, that's where it stops. Kiffin, in the same manner he's carried himself all season, is not concerned with the rankings, with the belief that they don't mean anything at this point.
"They do mean nothing right now whether you want to pay attention to them or not," Kiffin said. "It shuffles itself out. It takes care of itself. So many teams play each other."
Elsewhere in the conference, Oregon is No. 3 in the BCS Standings, despite being ranked No. 2 in the AP and Coaches' Polls.
Florida is No. 2 in the initial BCS Standings, but the Gators are No. 3 and No. 4 in the AP and Coaches' Polls, respectively.
No. 8 Oregon State and No. 20 Stanford are the only other Pac-12 schools in the BCS Top 25.
USC (5-1, 3-1 Pac-12 South) is coming off of an underwhelming 24-14 win at Washington in which they were shutout in the second half for the second time this season. The Trojans defense allowed just seven Huskies points in the second half. Safety Jawanza Starling forced a key Keith Price fumble in the fourth quarter and recovered it on the USC four-yard line when the Huskies were trying to cut it to a one possession game.
Kiffin says the Trojans were just happy to come away their third road win of the season in four tries, while handing Washington their first home loss of the season.
"At the end of the day, we got another double digit win on the road in a tough place to play," Kiffin said. "That stadium is a very tough place to play.
"Today Bill Belichick was up there (and loss). It's a tough place to play."
USC returns to the Coliseum on Saturday to host Colorado (1-5, 1-2 Pac-12 South).
