MATSUMOTO, Japan (AP) The United States moved into the second place at the women's volleyball World Cup by overwhelming Algeria 25-7, 25-2, 25-5 Thursday to keep within a point of leader Russia after five matches.
Tetori Dixon was the Americans' top scorer for the second game in a row, adding 16 points to the 14 she racked up in Wednesday's straight-sets win over Peru.
Russia remains the only unbeaten side at the competition after downing Cuba 25-19, 25-13, 25-18 in Tokyo. Nataliya Obmochaeva contributed 16 points to the victory, leaving her tied as tournament best scorer with Mercy Moim of Kenya, on 79.
Japan dropped to third after needing five sets to overcome Dominican Republic 25-18, 20-25, 30-32, 25-15, 15-13.
Also, Argentina beat Kenya 25-12, 25-17, 25-20.
