Upton struck by a pitch, D-backs strike back

NOTES: The D-backs’ unearned run in the fourth inning against Colorado was their first run in 24 innings, since Willie Bloomquist singled in Rusty Ryal in the sixth inning of a 3-2 loss to Cleveland in Goodyear on Monday. The D-lost were being blanked by Dan Haren and the Los Angeles Angels, 3-0, on Tuesday and fell to San Diego, 8-0, in the afternoon game Wednesday. … Takashi Saito gave up home runs to the first two San Diego batters he faced, Chase Headley and Carlos Quentin, in his one inning, the sixth. Quentin’s long home run landed among the plants above the center field fence. … Chris Young had two hits, including a two-run single, against Colorado to raise his batting average to .471. … J.J. Putz, who is looking at a cut fastball as a possible addition to his repertoire, pitched a 1-2-3 sixth inning against Colorado, striking out two swinging.
