CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina has formally broken ties from the tutor linked to the ongoing NCAA investigation of its athletic program.
In a letter dated Nov. 5, athletic director Dick Baddour informed Jennifer Wiley of Chapel Hill that the university had learned she provided "impermissible extra benefits" to players, including about $2,000 connected with travel expenses. It also states she "provided impermissible academic assistance to some of our student-athletes."
The letter states the university won't accept financial contributions for the athletic department from her and insisted she have no contact with any student-athlete for five years.
The NCAA has looked into possible academic violations involving Wiley, who didn't respond to an e-mail for comment Thursday.
