UIL Texas Football Championships on FOX Sports Southwest

BY foxsports • December 17, 2014

Several Texas high school football icons and personalities from the Lone Star state will be part of FOX Sports Southwest's wall-to-wall coverage of this week's UIL Texas High School football state championships from AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Inspirational speeches taped by former players and coaches who experienced high school football in Texas will open each game. Video flashbacks from memorable state championship games also will be interspersed throughout FOX Sports Southwest's coverage that runs from Thursday, Dec. 18 through Saturday, Dec. 20.

Four games are scheduled on Thursday with tripleheaders on Friday and Saturday. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster.com.

FOX Sports Southwest's game telecasts will open with the "voices of Texas football" recalling their high school memories and talking about the passion that ranks Texas high school football among the best in the nation. Included are:

•  Grant Teaff, Executive Director of the American Football Coaches Association who played at Snyder High School and was an assistant coach at Lubbock High School before enjoying a successful collegiate coaching career at Baylor.

• Earl Campell, nicknamed the Tyler Rose. His powerful running style led John Tyler High School to the 4A championship in 1973. He won the Heisman Trophy in 1977 while at the University of Texas and went on to a Hall of Fame NFL career with the Houston Oilers.

• Jimmy Johnson, two-time Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl winning coach. He earned All-State football honors at Port Arthur Jefferson High School as a two-way lineman.

• Mike Eli, the lead singer of the popular Eli Young Band who played football at Tomball High School.

FOX Sports Southwest's coverage will feature live game telecasts, shows between games and a wrap up highlight program after the final contest of the postseason.

Some games will be carried on FOX Sports Southwest Plus due to overlap with NBA games on FOX Sports Southwest (see schedule below). Kalu, who will rotate as analysts.
