With a logjam on the wing for Coach Ben Howland's Bruins, there was going to be an odd man out.
Junior guard Tyler Lamb has decided to eliminate himself from the equation. Lamb will transfer, the school announced.
Lamb, still a step slow from knee surgery last month, appeared in just one game this season and played just 14 minutes.
Jordan Adams has been quite the surprise coming off of the bench. The eligibility of Shabazz Muhammad along with the other heralded freshman, Kyle Anderson, in addition to the growth of Norman Powell makes minutes sparse on the wing.
"I believe that it is in my best interest to find a new destination where I can continue to grow, both as a person and as a basketball player," said Lamb in a statement.
Last season, as a sophomore, he appeared in all 33 games for the Bruins and started in all but one, averaging 9.0 points per game in 31.4 minutes of action. He scored a career high 26 points last New Year’s Eve at Cal.
He's averaged 5.8 points per game during his career. He was counted on heavily on the defensive end last season. In Lamb, Howland loses his best perimeter defender.
"We are very sad to see Tyler leave our program," said Howland in a statement. "We fully support his decision, and we wish him all the best in the future."
Lamb, who was also a high school teammate of the Wear Twins at Mater Dei says he plans to enroll in a new school by next semester.
The No. 11 Bruins return to action tonight when they host Cal Poly at the new Pauley Pavilion at 7pm.
