UCLA, USC greats among those on 2016 College Football HOF ballot

The College Football Hall of Fame and National Football Foundation announced the names on the 2016 ballot on Tuesday, including former USC and UCLA gridiron stars.

The 2016 class with be inducted on Dec. 6, 2016 while voting runs through June 20 of 2015.

USC was well represented with Mark Carrier (DB), Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart (QB) and Dennis Thurman (DB) among the nominees.

Linebacker Ken Norton Jr., who led UCLA to four consecutive bowl victories (1984-87), was the lone representative for the Bruins.

To be eligible, players must have been named a First Team All-American by a major/national selector for their consensus All-America teams, played their last year of college football at least 10 years prior, competed within the last 50 years and cannot be currently playing professional football.

Only 963 players, including the 2015 class, have earned induction into the College Football HOF.

"Having a ballot and a voice in the selection of the inductees is one of the most cherished NFF member benefits," said NFF Chairman Archie Manning, a 1989 Hall of Fame inductee from Mississippi, in a statement. "There is no group more knowledgeable or passionate about college football than our membership, and the tradition of the ballot helps us engage them in the lofty responsibility of selecting those who have reached the pinnacle of achievement in our sport."
