UCLA will be without outside linebacker Jordan Zumwalt against Colorado on Saturday, as the junior linebacker is still recovering from a scooter accident.

Zumwalt suffered a gash over his left eye when he was hit by a car Sunday. He will not travel to Boulder with the team.

“He needed a lot of stitches,” UCLA coach Jim Mora said. “They brought in a plastic surgeon and they did a tremendous job. But the cut reached enough into his forehead that, if he put a helmet on, it would not be good.”

Zumwalt is tied for fourth on the team with 16 tackles and has three tackles for a loss, ranking him third on the team.

Zumwalt's injury could result in some shuffling of the linebackers. Inside linebacker Damien Holmes is “versatile,” Mora said. He added, “You could see more of Ryan Hofmeister this week.”

Replacing what Zumwalt gives the Bruins may be impossible, Mora said.

“The thing we miss with Jordan not out there is his energy,” Mora said. “He plays with maniacal effort all the time.”

The Bruins are expected to have senior guard Jeff Baca available. He has missed the last two games while doctors tried to determine the source of his headaches. He was cleared to play Sunday.

Guard Greg Capella remains sidelined with a concussion.
