It was a convincing win over rival USC last Saturday night at the Rose Bowl, but only convincing enough to move the Bruins one spot in the College Football Playoff Poll to No. 8.
There's speculation around a few scenarios that would put UCLA in the top four, or at least closer to it after this week. No. 2 Oregon falling to Oregon State, who already upset Arizona State to give the Bruins better positioning in the Pac-12 South Division, would be the most beneficial. No. 4 Mississippi State losing in the Egg Bowl could potentially give UCLA a boost as well and if No. 5 TCU is upset by Texas - a team UCLA already beat - it could be favorable.
Ultimately, beating Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship game is the best way for UCLA to get a playoff spot.
But there are far too many scenarios involving the Big 12 and the SEC titles games and Bruins aren't ready to talk about scenarios involving other teams, because that's all assuming that they win. So for the Bruins, that's the only important scenario this week.
Win and they're in - the Pac-12 Championship game, that is - and UCLA refuses to look ahead to anything past Friday at 12:30.
"We've just got to play our game and not worry," said quarterback Brett Hundley. "It's a short week and we did get a big win, but at the same time, we have to be able to focus back in and get back to our regular schedule and get ready for Stanford."
Hundley still has yet to beat Stanford, or Oregon, for that matter, and as he approaches what is expected to be the end of his illustrious career at UCLA, it's not weighing on him. He isn't very reflective just yet, instead he's enjoying each big game as a Bruin and anxious for more.
"I'm just looking forward to Friday, that's our goal," he said. "You can't worry about what you have done and what you haven't done. Obviously I'm still here, and I'm still playing so you've got to focus on the present."
