UA's Fischer named Pac-12 Player of the Week

Arizona linebacker Jake Fischer was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
After missing the 2011 season with an ACL injury, Fischer, a redshirt junior, collected a career- and game-high 13 tackles to help lead Arizona to a 24-17 overtime win against Toledo in his return Saturday at Arizona Stadium. Fischer also registered a career-high 2.5 tackles for loss and forced a fumble.
Fischer’s performance highlighted a strong second half for the Wildcats, who held the Rockets to just three points and 132 yards of offense after halftime. And in the overtime period, Fischer and the UA defense ended the game by stopping Toledo on downs after the Arizona offense had scored a touchdown on the first possession. The overtime win was UA’s first since 2000.
Fischer, who was making his ninth career start, previously had career highs of seven tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. His forced fumble Saturday was the first in his career.
