New high definition (HD) video scoreboards will be installed at Michigan Stadium, Crisler Arena and Yost Ice Arena for next season, the University of Michigan announced Thursday.
The university's Board of Regents also approved the second phase of Crisler Arena's renovation project. It includes expansion of approximately 63,000 gross square feet with larger concourses, more restrooms and concessions, new seats and private club space. The construction schedule was not announced.
The new scoreboards will cost around $20 million while the tab for Crisler's second renovation phase is estimated at $52 million.
"The renovations will take our classic facility and make it a first-class, modern venue that will be among the best in the country," athletic director Dave Brandon said of the changes coming to Crisler.
Brandon said the conversion to HD and the installation of LED boards at the three facilities will give fans "enhanced and crystal-clear viewing" of the games, replays and other announcements.
