MINNEAPOLIS -- The Anthony Slama experiment is over in Minnesota.
Slama, 29, was released from Triple-A Rochester on Thursday. The right-hander spent seven seasons in the Twins’ minor league system after he was taken in the 39th round of the 2006 draft. Slama found success in the minors — 455 strikeouts in 338 1/3 innings and a 2.45 ERA as a reliever — but never got much of a chance in the majors.
He appeared in just seven games and pitched a total of seven innings for the Twins in 2010 and 2011. That included just 2 1/3 innings in 2011. He allowed four runs on six hits with five strikeouts and five walks in 4 2/3 innings in 2010.
The Twins also signed right-hander Cody Eppley to a minor league deal. He’ll report to Rochester. Eppley has made 71 appearances in the majors with the Rangers and Yankees, including two games with New York this year. He has a career 4.61 ERA in 56 2/3 innings in the majors.
