Twins reinstate Plouffe from paternity list, option Santana, Polanco

Published Jul. 31, 2015 11:30 p.m. ET

The Minnesota Twins announced late Friday night that they will reinstate third baseman Trevor Plouffe from the paternity list. Plouffe had missed the last three games to attend the birth of his son, Theodore Plouffe, who was born on Wednesday night.

Additionally, the Twins have optioned shortstop Danny Santana to Triple-A Rochester and infielder Jorge Polanco to Double-A Chattanooga.

The Twins will also add recently acquired right-handed pitcher Kevin Jepsen to their 25-man roster on Saturday.

Plouffe's return will be much-anticipated by the Twins, who lost 6-1 to Seattle on Friday. Minnesota could use Plouffe's run production; the third baseman has 14 homers and 55 RBI this season.

Santana has struggled this season, hitting .219.

Polanco has shown promise at the plate, hitting .429 in a very small sample size (seven at-bats), but has looked uncomfortable in the field for most of 2015.
