MINNEAPOLIS – The Twins announced Friday that they’ve recalled outfielder Matt Carson from Triple-A Rochester. Carson fills the roster spot vacated by Denard Span when he was put on the 15-day disabled list Thursday.

Carson spent five games with the Twins earlier in August before being sent back to Rochester on Aug. 23. He batted .381 in those games. In Rochester this year, Carson has batted .282 with 28 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs and 53 RBI.

The Twins acquired Carson in November after he spent two seasons in the A’s organization. In the major leagues with Oakland, Carson batted .200 in 46 games.

Carson’s callup comes just a day before the Twins can expand their roster to 40 players. Manager Ron Gardenhire said that general manager Terry Ryan will likely begin announcing which prospects will join the team later on Friday.
