Twins recall Herrmann, option Tonkin

MINNEAPOLIS -- As the Twins embark on a five-game interleague road trip, manager Ron Gardenhire expressed his desire to have an additional position player on the roster when they face San Diego and San Francisco.
Following Sunday's game against Seattle, Gardenhire got his wish. Minnesota announced that catcher/outfielder Chris Herrmann will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester. To make room for Herrmann on the 25-man roster, the Twins optioned reliever Michael Tonkin to Rochester.
Herrmann spent 15 games with the Twins earlier this season and hit .128 but was sent back to Rochester earlier this month. In nine games since his demotion, Herrmann has hit .400 with a home run, a triple and four RBI.
Tonkin, 24, pitched one inning in Sunday's game and gave up one hit while striking out a batter. His ERA on the season dropped to 5.84, but he gave up a total of eight runs (six earned) in his previous three outings.
