Twins place Santana on DL, bring back Pino

A knee injury suffered by Danny Santana in Wednesday's game was bad enough for the Twins to place the shortstop on the disabled list Friday. Santana had been listed as day-to-day by the team Thursday.

Taking Santana's spot on the roster is pitcher Yohan Pino, who was sent down one day earlier when the team recalled shortstop Jorge Polanco from High-A Fort Myers. Because Pino is replacing someone going to the disabled list he doesn't have to spend the usual requisite 10 days in the minors after being sent down.

Santana, who has played both shortstop and center field for Minnesota after being recalled from Triple-A Rochester, is batting .328 with a .366 on-base percentage and .448 slugging percentage along with six steals in 37 games.

The 30-year-old Pino, who made his major-league debut June 19, is 0-1 with a 6.30 in two starts with the Twins. Pinio is expected to start Monday against Kansas City at Target Field.
