The Twins' game of roster roulette continues.
Shortly after their 9-4 loss Thursday at Cleveland, the team optioned shortstop Pedro Florimon and catcher/outfielder Chris Herrmann to Triple-A Rochester.
The move came just hours after they placed outfielder Sam Fuld on the 7-day disabled list and recalled Eduardo Nunez from the Red Wings.
The team said corresponding moves will be made Friday, but one of them is expected to be center fielder Aaron Hicks. He, too, is on the 7-day concussion list but is eligible to rejoin the team starting Friday.
Both Florimon and Herrmann have been horrendous from the plate so far this season. In 25 games, Florimon has hit .108 (7-for-65) with just one RBI. Herrmann has yet to drive in a run in 14 games and entered the day batting .114 (4-for-35).
Thursday at the Indians' Progressive Field, Herrmann went 1-for-4 and left four runners on base.
"There are no questions to it," a frustrated manager Ron Gardenhire said after his team's third straight loss, all to Cleveland. "That's a pretty solid statement by me and the general manager and the assistant general manager."
In addition to rotating underperforming players, Gardenhire continues to juggle injured ones. First baseman Joe Mauer missed a third straight game with back spasms, outfielders Josh Willingham (left-wrist hairline fracture) and Oswaldo Arcia (strained right wrist) remain on the 15-day DL, and pitcher Mike Pelfrey is out with a left groin strain.
After suffering a 3-1 series loss and falling to 15-18, Minnesota travels to Detroit for a three-game series that begins Friday.
