Heavy favorite Turbulent Descent took the lead early in the homestretch and won handily in the $100,000 Moccasin Stakes for 2-year-old fillies on Sunday at Hollywood Park.

Ridden by David Flores, Turbulent Descent won by just 1 1/2 lengths but was never challenged and never needed Flores' whip as she covered seven furlongs in 1:23.15 to go 2-for-2 in her brief career.

Turbulent Descent paid $3.40, $2.40 and $2.10. Zazu was second and paid $3.60 and $2.40. Tales in Excess was well back in third and paid $2.60 to show.

A Florida-bred filly trained by Mike Puype for an ownership group that includes Bill Strauss, Turbulent Descent earned $60,000, for a career total of $82,800. Her maiden win came in her first start on Oct. 3 at Hollywood.

Puype said he plans to run her in the Grade 1, $250,000 Hollywood Starlet on Dec. 11.

''If she comes back well, the Starlet has to be the plan,'' he said. ''She's worth a fortune already and would be worth a bigger fortune after a Grade 1.''
