Indians reliever Vinnie Pestano could miss some time with elbow soreness due to tendinitis.
The team will evaluate him on Sunday and determine if a trip to the DL is necessary.
Pestano says he's been dealing with tendonitis for years, but the ailment has never prevented him from fulfilling his role as the team's stone-cold set-up man.
"It's something we've been monitoring the last couple of years," Pestano said. "It's something that crops up and comes and goes, and we've been able to manage it to a very good degree. This is the first time I haven't been able to answer the call so to speak."
Questions arose regarding Pestano's availability after manager Terry Francona went with Cody Allen instead of Joe Smith for the seventh inning of Friday night's game, a spot in which Smith is normally used to set-up the eighth for Pestano.
Francona said that Pestano's elbow had been acting 'cranky' and that he wouldn't be available to pitch in Saturday's game. The skipper said they'll continue to 'keep an eye on him'.
"It's not something I am expecting to be a big issue," Pestano said. "It's something I have dealt with in the past, it just flared up a little worse this time.”
While Pestano doesn't think a trip to the DL will be necessary, some extended rest may be needed to avoid any further injury. "I want to be out there, I know that our bullpen has been shorthanded," Pestano said. "I don't like them being overworked and covering my inning for me."
