The Coyotes' offseason shopping list just got a little larger. Assistant general manager Brad Treliving was named the new GM of the Calgary Flames on Monday, robbing Phoenix of a valuable part of the management team.

Treliving, 44, just completed his seventh season with the Coyotes. He joined the organization after serving as the president of the Central Hockey League (CHL) for seven years, during which time the CHL experienced growth, adding expansion franchises such as the Arizona Sundogs in Prescott Valley.

Treliving has been rumored as a candidate for other GM positions and interviewed for the Buffalo GM spot that Tim Murray eventually took in January.

Maloney has spoken repeatedly about Treliving's importance to the organization both because of his understanding of the salary cap and because of his role in overseeing the scouting department and the club's AHL affiliate in Portland.
