Top 3 fantasy football waiver wire replacements for Alshon Jeffery

Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery’s 2016 fantasy football average draft position settled in at WR-13 and the third round. After missing seven games in 2015, fantasy owners still bought what Jeffery was selling. Well, the joke may be on them, as he’ll miss at least the next four games due to violating the NFL’s PED policy.

The good news for his fantasy owners is he didn’t set the bar too high. Through nine games, he was averaging four receptions, eight targets, 70 receiving yards, and 12.11 fantasy points per game. Jeffery has only scored one touchdown this season. Owners can hedge most of this loss by working the waiver wire.

Cameron Meredith (owned in 8.8 percent of leagues)

He became a household name for a few weeks with Brian Hoyer behind center. Meredith caught 20 passes on 27 targets for 243 yards and a touchdown against the Colts and Jaguars earlier this season. Up until Jay Cutler connected with him on a 50-yard Hail Mary in Week 10, Meredith had two receptions for 36 yards over the past three games. The Bears schedule is very soft during the playoffs with games against the Niners, Lions and Packers Weeks 13-15. At face value, Meredith and tight end Zach Miller has the most to gain from Jeffrey’s absence.

Rishard Matthews (owned in 27 percent of leagues)

He’s scored six touchdowns in the past six games. If you remove the first three weeks of the season, Matthews is averaging 14.4 fantasy points per game, which is better than Jeffrey’s average production.

Jamison Crowder (owned in 50 percent of leagues)

With DeSean Jackson inactive Week 10, Crowder continued to produce for fantasy owners. He only caught four passes for 37 yards, but found the end zone for the third time in the last four games. He’s averaging 16.7 fantasy points per game in PPR leagues over the past five contests. Even with Jackson active, Crowder has carved out a role within the Redskins passing game. Cousins trusts him and that’s a huge deal with the Packers’ horrible pass defense on tap next.
