IRVING, Texas -- Tony Romo says Sunday's three-interception performance against San Francisco should be attributed to mental mistakes.

Romo, who posted a 60.8 quarterback rating during the Dallas Cowboys' 28-17 loss, received his worst game grade since 2008 from Pro Football Focus.

"I got a lot out of [watching the film]," Romo said while sitting at his locker on Wednesday. "I think some of the stuff after the game, you just wish you played better. For me, it was just good to see the subtleness of just what I felt like I need to be a little better just through the mental progression before each snap, the subtleties of it that really gain you the advantages to ensure that you don't make certain mistakes.

"The more I went over it, the more I started to realize it was just some small things that I need to do. The mental checklist before you get into that situation and I think going forward that will be much better."

The good news for the Cowboys is that Romo didn't feel any lingering physical effects after the game despite being sacked three times.

"I think that was part of the positive that came from the game," Romo said. "Physically, I did a lot of things well. Mentally, I felt like I wasn't as sharp as I needed to be in the football game. That's what stood out to me."

How has Romo bounced back from previous poor outings?

Before the San Francisco loss, Romo had thrown three or more interceptions 10 times during his career. One of those games came in the 2012 season finale. If you count the 2013 season opener, the Cowboys are 5-5 in the games that follow.

During those 10 games, Romo has tossed 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

"All quarterbacks go through it," Romo said. "You never want to have games where you throw multiple interceptions. But what makes the best quarterbacks is how they respond to it. So you got to come back and you got to play your best football for the next, for the rest of the season, multiple weeks, blah, blah, blah."
