LONDON (AP) Tom Wood has been called up by England for the first time since the 2015 Rugby World Cup to combat an injury crisis at openside flanker heading into the autumn internationals.

England coach Eddie Jones has lost five potential No. 7s - James Haskell, Jack Clifford, Sam Jones, Mike Williams and Maro Itoje - to injury, causing him to recall Wood.

Wood, who has 42 caps, said in January that he was told by Jones he was ''distinctly average.''

There are six uncapped players in the 33-man squad announced Wednesday: prop Kyle Sinckler, No. 8 Nathan Hughes, lock Charlie Ewels, winger Mike Haley, flyhalf Alex Lozowski and center Ben Te'o.
