Tom Ludt has been elected the new chairman of the Breeders' Cup.

Ludt, president at Vinery Ltd., succeeds Bill Farish Jr., who stepped down Thursday at the end of his five-year term. Ludt will serve a two-year term while Farish will stay on as a member of the Breeders' Cup Board of Directors.

The Breeders' Cup is also taking steps to eliminate race-day medications. The board will appoint a subcommittee with the objective of developing a plan and a timetable for the elimination of race-day medication in the Breeders' Cup World Championships.

The 2011 Breeders' Cup will be run at Churchill Downs on Nov. 4-5.
