Tom Chuckas has resigned as president and chief executive officer of the Maryland Jockey Club after a 6-year run.

Maryland racing stabilized after a period in which it appeared the Preakness might be forced to move from Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. Chuckas played a key role in eliminating the practice of bringing alcohol to the infield of the Preakness. The Preakness attracked a record-breaking crowd in 2014.

''Racing in Maryland is positioning itself for tremendous growth opportunities," Chuckas said.
