Time seems right for Chargers to move on from San Diego

The Chargers met with city officials earlier this week to discuss possible funding for a new stadium that would keep the team in San Diego.
Now there's some speculation the Chargers might have done so with false intentions.
Kevin Acee of U-T San Diego, who has been all over this story since it became a story, suggests the Chargers "have slow-played -- even sabotaged -- efforts to get a stadium built in San Diego."
Earlier this year, the Chargers teamed up with the Oakland Raiders to propose a joint stadium in Carson, Calif., just south of Los Angeles. The St. Louis Rams also have a stadium proposal in play for Inglewood, Calif., on the ground of the old Hollywood Park Racetrack.
With competing bids out there, the league has taken the topic of NFL teams in Los Angeles very seriously. The topic was discussed last month at the owners meeting in San Francisco, and another meeting has been added to the docket for August for a status update on the two projects.
These efforts have put heat on each team's respective home city -- San Diego, Oakland and St. Louis.
It's pretty much publicly known that both the Raiders and Rams would leave in a heartbeat if the league were to grant them approval to do so. The Chargers, on the other hand, who knows.

If you buy what Acee is suggesting, the Chargers could be ready to jump ship at a moment's notice. It makes sense, too. The Chargers worked very hard for a lot of years to come to some sort of agreement with the city with no such luck.
With Dean Spanos stepping away from the day-to-day operations of the team, handing over control to his sons, it seems like starting fresh is something the Chargers are trying to do.
We shall see.
