One: Once again, a slow start was in the offing for the Blue Jackets. They were tentative in the first period, collapsing around the middle of their own zone and giving too much time and space to the Capitals. Broken record time... There were too many penalties.

Two: The pushback came in the second period, with a few players beginning to take the team on their backs and show the way. Jenner, Atkinson, Foligno and Cracknell did well to give their side a jump.

Three: The first 14 minutes of the third period marked a return to "Blue Jackets hockey" and rediscovering their identity, at least for a short time. They were cycling the puck well, winning board battles and generally giving the Capitals a run for their money. Still, they did not play a full 60 minute game, which helped to extend their losing streak to 9 games.
