Three takeaways from the Blue Jackets 2-1 loss to Nashville

One: On the second night of back-to-back games, they could have thrown in the towel at an early stage coming on the heels of the 5-0 loss to Vancouver. Instead, they opened the game with good speed, physical play and energy. Their passing was better and they were keeping pace with the Predators through most of the game. Ladies and gentlemen, what you saw tonight was pride.
Two: Goaltender Curtis McElhinney, having not made a start in two weeks, played his best game of the season and kept the team in the game despite being peppered with shots by Nashville. His rebound control was light years better than what it has been this season. In front of him, the team showed a much better effort in all zones. Hitting rock bottom might be just the wake-up call they needed.
Three: Good news/bad news. The good news is that rookie forward Kerby Rychel appears to be the real deal. He had energy, played physical and was tenacious on the forecheck in his NHL debut. He's not afraid to use his large frame to muscle guys off the puck. The kid has a bright future ahead of him. The bad news is that center Artem Anisimov left the game with an upper-body injury. Sunday will bring a more definitive answer as to whether he will miss any games because of this.
