Chris Bryant, a 6-foot-5, 330-pound offensive lineman, made an oral commitment to Michigan Friday night, less than a week before the national signing day.

Bryant is a three-star recruit and the No. 21 offensive guard in the nation, according to Scout.com. He chose Michigan over Pittsburgh, Illinois and Arizona.

The Wolverines' 17th commitment helped push U-M to No. 29 overall, fourth in the Big Ten, in Scout.com's recruiting rankings.

Bryant can sign an official letter of intent beginning next Wednesday.

Michigan coach Brady Hoke, meanwhile, announced two staff additions - Mike Vollmar as associate athletic director for football, and Bob Lopez as director of football operations.

Vollmar was a long-time member of Nick Saban's staff at Michigan State and more recently at Alabama. He graduated from college at Siena Heights (Adrian, Mich.) and is a former U-M assistant recruiting coordinator.

Lopez rejoins Hoke after working with him at San Diego State.
