The 'U,' Gator Chomp or Tomahawk Chop? Meyer saw them all

With Ohio State getting set to host Cincinnati this weekend, the topic of in-state recruiting came up at Urban Meyer's weekly football press conference.

The current head coach of the Buckeyes explained -- with descriptive hand motions -- the different challenges he faced when he held the same position at Florida.

"At Florida when you walked into a home it was either a 'Nole, 'Cane or a Gator, and you usually look on the wall and figure out where you're at," he said.

Meyer, who was a walk-on player at UC in the early 1980s before being a graduate assistant at Ohio State, said the Bearcats are not often a major competitor on the recruiting trail like Miami and Florida State were when he was in charge of the Gators, but he expects to see that continue to change as the UC program continues growing under Tommy Tuberville, who is trying to continue the momentum built by predecessors Mark Dantonio and Brian Kelly.

"I think more here in southern Ohio you will see a lot of UC allegiance," Meyer said. "To say we get into a ton of recruiting battles with them, we have a few, not to the same caliber that we did down there, but as UC continues to elevate their game, which they have done, I can see that happening down the road."
