Thanksgiving at Fort Irwin: FSSD Girls Diary

Thanksgiving at Fort Irwin: FSSD Girls Diary

Published Dec. 10, 2013 1:33 p.m. ET

FOX Sports San Diego Girls, Katie and Brie, spent this Thanksgiving holiday celebrating with Southern California's military families stationed at the Fort Irwin National Training Center. They were joined by their fellow FOX Sports Arizona and FOX Sports West Girls and spent two days on the base experiencing the military lifestyle and participating in the NFL on FOX Thanksgiving Day live pregame show. Below is their personal diary of the trip.

Tuesday November 26:

4:00 P.M. - Bags, check! Tunes, check! Off we go! On our way to Ft. Irwin… We are so excited we can barely stand it!

6:00 P.M. - Our stomachs are grumbling which means it's time for some dinner. No road trip would be complete without some good ol' In and Out!

9:00 P.M. - We arrive on base! A little tired but happy to have made it! We check in at The Landmark Inn, greet the other FOX Sports Girls and crew and then nestle into bed. We have an early morning tomorrow!

Wednesday November 27:

7:15 A.M. - We grab a little grub in the lobby of the hotel and then meet the other FOX Sports Girls and crew there.

7:30 A.M. - It's finally time to head over for the Spouses Spur Ride! All of us pile into 2 cars and drive over!

8:15 A.M. - All the Girls break out into different groups and the Spur Ride begins. There are six different stations, each with an activity that simulates everyday life for those in the Army. We rode in a tank, shot some big guns, carried a "wounded" soldier through an obstacle course, threw hand grenades (it's not as easy as it looks), and finished up by going to a museum.

11:00 A.M. - We earned our spurs!! They lifted our feet into the air and threw on some spurs, followed by the traditional spur ceremony.

12:00 P.M. - Lunch! We ate in the dining hall, and met up with some incredible soldiers. The food was tasty and the company was even better!

12:30 P.M. - Time to hit the showers! You'd never know we were women by smelling us ;).

2:30 P.M. – Just arrived to an awesome formation event with the soldiers and their commander. It’s so fun to see daily life here on the base and be a part of it all!

4:00 P.M. – Time for some relaxation at Warrior Zone, a cool spot for soldiers to hang out and de-stress. We played video games, pool and had some food… and learned we are not very good at Call of Duty!

6:00 P.M. – Dinner time! We hit up the sports bar on base to eat some more and hang out with military families. We saw lots of the same people from our spur ride which was fun. Let's just say, the FOX Sports Girls know how to tear it up in the dance floor!

10:30 P.M. - Lights out! Time to get some beauty rest before our big day, which starts REALLY early.

Thursday, Nov. 28

4:45 A.M. - Time to wake up! Happy Thanksgiving!

5:45 A.M. - All the Girls meet down in the lobby, looking camera ready! We eat some breakfast and then drive over to Medina Wasl, which is about 30 minutes into the middle of the desert. Gotta go! Don't wanna be late!

6:30 A.M. - Dress rehearsal time! We go over exactly what we're supposed to be doing during the NFL ON FOX Pregame Show, which is amping up the crowd and smiling for the cameras! Now, we have some time to say hi to the military families until show time.

8:15 A.M. - We all get into place. Jay Glazer and Eddie George greet the crowd. Here we go!

8:30 A.M. - 9:30 A.M. - The show is over before we know it! We were all on an adrenaline high! The LA studio tossed to us in Ft. Irwin several times during the show. We ended by singing the national anthem. After a few more pictures and autographs with the troops, Katie and I now head back home to San Diego, feeling ever so happy and grateful.
