Amid rumors that co-offensive coordinator Justin Fuente could be leaving Fort Worth, Gary Patterson's TCU staff suffered another defection.
Texas Tech announced Friday that it has hired TCU safeties coach Chad Glasgow as its defensive coordinator, ending the 38-year-old's 10-year stint in Fort Worth.
TCU coach Gary Patterson has yet to announce Glasgow's replacement.
Glasgow experienced immense success with the Horned Frogs, coaching 14 all-conference selections and having four safeties sign NFL contracts in the past four years. That individual talent spilled over to team success, too; TCU led the nation in defense five times in Glasgow's tenure, including in each of the past three seasons.
"It's my goal to bring our defense to a championship level, and Chad Glasgow is the right person for the job," head coach Tommy Tuberville said in a news release. "With his experience and knowledge of the game and recruiting, he will be a great addition to our staff."
Texas Tech also promoted Otis Mounds, 39, from defensive graduate assistant to assistant coach in charge of cornerbacks.
Glasgow's hiring is the second newsworthy item of the week involving the two schools. On Wednesday, news surfaced that Texas Tech canceled the 2011 game between the schools prior to TCU's Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin.
The hiring of Glasgow could have potential recruiting implications. Glasgow was one of TCU's top recruiters and was the coach assigned to the recruitment of coveted defensive tackle Jon Lewis, who switched his commitment from Texas Tech to TCU on Jan. 15.
While there is no indication that Lewis is considering a switch away from TCU, it's worth watching to see if Glasgow's departure sways him away from Fort Worth
