Texas Tech CB dismissed after incident at campus rec center

A Texas Tech freshman cornerback has been dismissed after an incident at a campus recreation center, the school says.
Texas Tech released the following statement Sunday about Nigel Bethel II, a three-star cornerback out of Miami and one of the prize recruits from the Red Raiders' 2014 class:
"Nigel Bethel II, a Texas Tech football student-athlete, has been dismissed from the team due to his role in an incident at the Texas Tech Student Recreation Center on Saturday, June 28. Texas Tech Athletics has a zero tolerance policy on this type of behavior."
The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports it has learned that Bethel was involved in an altercation in which Amber Battle, the leading scorer for the Lady Raiders basketball team last season, was hit in the face.
The paper says Battle suffered a broken bone and is expected to have surgery.
Texas Tech campus police say no narrative would be provided until Monday.
