Texas reliever undergoes surgery for hernia

Texas Rangers right-hander Mike Adams underwent surgery Wednesday for a hernia.
Adams is expected to be ready for Opening Day but likely will be behind the rest of the pitchers when the club reports for spring training next month.
"He probably would have played with it," Texas general manager Jon Daniels said. "He elected to get it fixed. Everything went well. There's a chance he'll be a little bit behind in the beginning of camp. He should be ready for Opening Day."
Daniels said the injury was not a sports hernia and that he thinks it will be easier for Adams to recover because he's a short reliever. The right-hander started having some aches about three weeks ago.
Adams went 2-3 with a 2.10 ERA in 27 appearances after he was acquired by the Rangers from San Diego at the nonwaiver trade deadline last season.
