Texas RB Newton gives up football after injuries

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Texas coach Mack Brown says sophomore running back Tre' Newton is giving up football after a series of injuries.
Newton sustained a concussion in as 39-14 loss to Kansas State on Nov. 6 and did not play in last Saturday's 33-16 loss to No. 12 Oklahoma State.
Newton rushed for 229 yards and three touchdowns this season.
Newton is the son of former Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Nate Newton.
