Texas A&M AD Hyman makes joke about Alabama
Texas A&M athletic director Eric Hyman just poked the Bear – as in Bryant.
Hyman told a joke during a speech at a banquet Thursday night that won't go over well in Alabama.
"What do the moon and Texas A&M have in common? We control the Tide," Hyman said during the Brazos County A&M Club's Coach's Night. The banquet was at the Memorial Student Center on the A&M campus.
The joke was quoted in the Twitter feeds of both the Bryan-College Station Eagle newspaper (@Aggie_Sports) and of Houston Chronicle/San Antonio Express-News beat writer Brent Zwerneman (@BrentZwerneman). Both were covering the banquet.
Texas A&M upset No. 1 Alabama, 29-24, last November in Tuscaloosa, although the loss did not prevent the Crimson Tide from claiming another national championship in January.
Hyman, according to Zwerneman's tweets, also told the crowd that his fellow Southeastern Conference athletic directors have "Texas A&M fatigue: We made such an impact on the league they're tired of us."
After making his "control the Tide" joke, Hyman reportedly told Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin he wants to be able to say the same thing in a year.
Sumlin then received a standing ovation as he took his turn at the dais and reportedly said, "No pressure, Eric. Thank you."
