Teryn's Hot Topics: Hop on the roller coaster

ST. LOUIS -- As a sports fan you know your team will not win 100 percent of its games and be perfect every time it hits the field. If you are a loyal fan you will be around for the ups and downs, seeing them through the good times and bad.
Life is a roller-coaster ride, and the world of sports is no different. We have been on quite a ride in St. Louis the past few weeks, especially when it comes to our Blues.
Some people are saying, "We should have known. This is what happened last year."
And the comparisons are eerily similar. The Blues won their first two games in the first round of the playoffs last year, then lost four straight to the defending Stanley Cup champions (the Los Angeles Kings). The same thing happened this year with the Chicago Blackhawks.
But because St. Louis does bleed blue, we had our hopes up and were willing to go on the roller-coaster ride and back our team. We ended up like Will Ferrell's character Ron Burgundy -- in a glass case of emotion -- but hey, there's always next year. Until then, let's reflect on the top 10 moments from this season -- because despite the sad ending, the story was pretty fun to follow.

QUICK HITS
-- The Cardinals took us to the top of the roller coaster Wednesday afternoon in their powerhouse 9-3 win over the Brewers. They, too, have taken us on a ride in their first 29 games, now just a game over .500 while providing glimpses of what their offense can be. But for now I will give you the line that virtually any Cards fan will feed you at this point in the year: "It's a long season and they will smooth things out." The most recent case in point: Allen Craig. And besides, the Cards have played 20 games in 20 days. I'm glad they have a much-deserved day off Thursday and will have a fresh start in Chicago this weekend.
-- Kayla and I share an alma mater, and our school has been making headlines lately, not all the kind we'd like. But there was some good buzz surrounding Mizzou athletic director Mike Alden's latest hire, men's basketball Coach Kim Anderson. For Anderson, who hails from Sedalia, Mo., and was both a player and assistant coach under Norm Stewart, this is his "dream job." Anderson is fresh off winning a Division II national title at Central Missouri, and while his ability to recruit at this level is unknown, his loyalty and integrity are not. Maybe going back to its roots is just what Mizzou needs. And who knows, maybe now we will see a reflection of that era, Norm Stewart himself, make some appearances at the court that bears his name.

-- I stopped in Columbia this week and had to take a peek at the East Side Expansion taking place at Faurot Field. It is unreal! I can't believe how big it is! It is going to be extremely nice and makes me very excited for this fall. This phase of the expansion project is set to be completed in August, when Memorial Stadium will officially be called "The Zou" -- reflective of the quote that paints the giant scoreboard at the north end zone, "Welcome to the Zou."
VIDEO PICK
The Milwaukee bullpen has its own hashtag trending on Twitter: #WCWW, or Wei-Chung Wang Wednesday, paralleling the Brewers' southpaw with the '80s musical group Wang Chung. The Brew Crew revealed a new installment of #WCWW, with the St. Louis Arch making a cameo, this week while the team was in town.
My shout-out this week goes to newly elected Cardinals Hall of Famers Willie McGee, Mike Shannon, Jim Edmonds and Marty Marion. This is a very cool endeavor the Cardinals are pursuing. After all, shouldn't one of the most storied teams in baseball have its own Hall of Fame? I think so, and it's pretty neat that the best fans in baseball can have some say in who gets inducted. It's also pretty neat that we have so many great players to choose from.
